The South Florida Beach Photography Style Guide
Beach photography in South Florida is one of our most popular session types — and for good reason. Golden hour light over the Atlantic, soft white sand, and that effortless coastal aesthetic make for stunning portraits. Here's how to prepare for your beach session.
Timing Is Everything
The best light for beach photography is golden hour — the hour before sunset. The light is warm, diffused, and wraps around you beautifully. Morning sessions (the hour after sunrise) are also available and offer a quieter beach with cooler temperatures.
Pro tip: Book your session around the sunset time for your date. We'll confirm the exact start time based on the sunset calendar.
What to Wear on the Beach
Flowing fabrics photograph beautifully. Think maxi dresses, loose linens, and lightweight materials that catch the breeze. Movement reads wonderfully in photos.
Coordinate, don't match. For group and family sessions, choose a color palette (2-3 complementary colors) rather than everyone wearing the same outfit. Earth tones, soft blues, whites, and corals look natural against sand and water.
Barefoot is best — but bring sandals for walking between spots. And yes, you can absolutely get in the water if you're up for it. Some of our favorite images happen ankle-deep in the surf.
What to Bring
- A change of clothes (casual + dressy gives you variety)
- Towel for drying off if you go in the water
- Hair ties or clips for wind management
- Lip balm and minimal touch-up items
- Sunglasses (we'll use them as a prop or remove them as needed)
